Optimism and Tomfoolery
Blogging is something that I never really saw myself doing. I began my adventures in life enraptured by dinosaurs, as I feel most kids are, because they're giant lizards that can crush cars and look really cool. I also ran around with T-rex arms roaring at my parents, who, while amused, told me that this probably isn't behavior many others continue into their 20's. Originally, the obsession first created a desire to be a paleontologist, but it was tempered by the discovery that I wouldn't actually get to create dinosaurs like Jurassic Park. Or maybe shouldn't - it seems that never worked out for anyone in those movies. I never really lost that love though. Dinosaurs, and the connection to the fantastical, spurred me to enjoy the stories that came with our own history. In all of the nonsense and white noise we hear, the world is full of fantastic things (especially when concerning food). I love taking any chance to find a bit of wonder, and for me, the perfect medium is travel.
It actually works out well. In the past, I've just come home and regaled people with various tales of my trip, showing pictures and describing in exhaustive detail the food I ate. In the last few years though, I've repeatedly gotten the suggestion that I should blog about the things I could do - especially when I travel fairly consistently. Blogging allows me to, in theory, regularly connect with my audience while I'm doing the cool things, a fact which is only marred by the constant struggle between writing and walking around taking pictures of things to write about. It's a delicate balance I'm still learning. Surprisingly, alcohol also doesn't help at all.
At my core, I love stories of all types. Whether it's expressed through art, writing, verbally, or simply in a good picture, I love the power that stories play in our life. So I'm going to write stories about my travels. I'm also going to write actual fiction, various other small articles about whatever I want, and about game design. Really, it could be anything. This blog may write itself. I might not even have control over it! Mostly, it will be tales about food, old buildings, and puns. Write what you know, as they say, and I know how to spend money to look at things. Also, I don't know if I know anything about puns, but I do know a little bit about language, so if I encounter any problems, I'll just word my way through it.
Should work out!
